Some largely even browning throughout endpapers a little marked but overall very good. This Japanese scrapbook filled with newspaper clippings from Japanese sources provides a detailed and engaging record of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games capturing the entire event from its earliest stages to its conclusion. The scrapbook begins with profiles of all Japanese athletes participating in the Games followed by reports on the opening ceremony individual sporting events and the triumphs and disappointments experienced by Japan's competitors. <br> <br>It also includes coverage of notable performances by international athletes and closes with accounts of the closing ceremony. The precise newspaper source for these articles is not identified. <br> <br>Each clipping has been neatly and carefully cut and mounted demonstrating the compiler's dedication and care. The scrapbook was assembled by S. Tanaka in December 1965. Wrapped in paper from a bookshop in Fukuoka it suggests that Tanaka may have been a sports enthusiast living in that region motivated to preserve the memories of Japan’s Olympic efforts. <br> <br>Beyond its sporting content the scrapbook offers insights into the Japanese media's portrayal of the Games and national pride during the post-war period. It serves as both a historical record and a personal testament to one individual's passion. . unknown

With birds-eye view by Caughey on recto advertisement for Willson in lower right corner center crease fold as issued; postcard information and cancelled stamp & postmark for Portland addressed to W.H. Bilyen 90 1/2 - 5th St. City Portland Oregon minor dustsoiling slight toning very minor wear at fold crease still VG copy. First edition of this uncommon folding souvenir postcard celebrating the Lewis & Clark Centennial Exposition featuring and reproducing the famed Caughey birds-eye. The birds-eye depicts the Guild’s Lake area of the grounds up and operating now bounded by Reed to Thurston Streets and 31st to 24th Streets in NW Portland. Prof. Willson fl. 1904-1920 began as a dance instructor with the Academy of Dancing located in the Hirsch Building but within a few years of the Exposition set up his own dance studio and was noted instructor of Waltzes. This card advertises the fact that couples could dance for .50¢ while an “Extra Lady†for .25¢ and even better for men in the very hot and humid Portland Pavilion they could dance without their coats in Shirt Waists. Caughey 1851-1925 was an Ohio Civil War veteran an itinerant chalk plate artist and had just created the year before in Feb. 1904 a Birds-Eye view reproduced over two pages in the Lewis and Clark Journal with noted birds-eye artist and cartographer Fred Routledge 1871-1936. Caughey began producing birds eye views in and around Portsmouth NH in the 1880’s and eventually became a commercial artist and newspaper editor in Portland Oregon where he would often produce images for the Mutual Label & Lithographic Co. 19033813<p>This wonderful bird's-eye view of Lake Winnipesaukee looks north toward the White Mountains. It identifies numerous towns islands and bays and shows the route of the Boston & Maine Railroad for which the view was prepared. A printed key below the image identifies 57 islands 2 points and 26 mountain summits. The reverse of the view provides text and black & white images about the region including history and attractions. This appears to be the first edition with others following in 1909 and 1925. A lovely example.</p><p>ICN 7728.</p><p>Condition: Chromolithograph folded into illustrated stiff paper covers measuring 7 x 4." A clean crisp example with a few short intersection separations. 1910J68AIMO7W1D1Palestine 1910. Rolled up and kept in a cardboard tube. An enormous panoramic view drawn in coloured gouaches on a single continuous roll of unwatermarked wove paper 70 x 583 cm the drawing running to the edges of the paper. A panoramic view of what appears to be a fantasy Middle Eastern landscape with spectacular mountains in the background a body of water near each end and a wide variety of buildings and ruins some clearly classical Roman and others Middle Eastern. The combination of classical Roman architecture with dromedaries and other Middle Eastern features places it very likely in Palestine but we have not been able to identify specific buildings. The most distinctive ruin a round Roman temple with five columns on the viewer's side an entablature above them and a vertical base below them looks more like the Temple of the Vesta at Tivoli than like any known in the Middle East the columns are not rendered in sufficient detail to determine their order but they are almost certainly not Ionic and are probably Corinthian. There are also classical Roman aqueducts. The six shepherds with their flocks all wear broad-brimmed hats and have staffs and two are blowing long slightly curved horns. Several more figures with broad-brimmed hats and staffs might be pilgrims one together with what is presumably his wife. With a 33 cm tear into the left end a few insignificant and much smaller tears and with pin holes about 1 cm from the edges from mounting on a wall but otherwise in very good condition and with the colours fresh and bright. A spectacular panoramic view of the Middle East including many classical Roman ruins. unknown
