Stab sewn as issued; edges uncut and unopened; some slight tanning and spotting; a few small chips and minute tears at the leading edge; in very good condition. An early attempt to protect grape vines from powdery mildew Oidium Tuckeri in New South Wales. John Nowlan's electorate of Williams covered part of the Hunter Valley affected by the blight and his bill proposed quarantine and other biosecurity measures. This copy gives the text as it was presented to the House at its first reading on 9 February 1869. It was subsequently referred to a select committee but ultimately lapsed and was never passed into law. Its circulation in this form is likely to have been very limited. Catalog approx. 6x9" printed light green covers stapled spine.48 pages. Besides the Niagara species Green presents other aspects of grape culture. Lots of advertisements too. Nicest feature is a stunning full page chromolithograph of the featured grape. Covers moderately soiled. First page separated. Scarce. OCLC lists only titles of Green's Fruit Grower from 1906-17 and only one from an unidentified year in the late 1800's. We could find no fruit grower catalog dated 1886 for the grape. The Fruit Grower dedicates a page in this journal to how to order from the Niagara White Grape Co of Lockport NY and OCLC identfies only 1 copy of that firm's catalag on the subject. Charles A.
