Black text printed on lightly toned paper folded in half and was previously folded twice. Dated to January 23rd 1865 this letter proves the "dissolution of copartnership" between P. B. Lamb and T. W. Harvey who owned and operated lumber mills in the Chicago area. Tarlington Walker Harvey was a successful businessman and in this letter "purchased all the interest of P. B. Though best known for his Essays of Elia and Tales from Shakespeare Charles Lamb also published several shorter works including poems plays and essays. These range in topic from scholarly pieces on Shakespeare and his contemporaries to his famously sentimental poems like "The Old Familiar Faces" which touches on the death of Lamb's mother. About near fine with toning and light rubbing to extremities interior very clean. Elia is a collection of Lamb's popular essays each of which was originally published in London Magazine. Specifically it includes "The South-Sea House" "Christ's Hospital Five and Thirty Years Ago" "Dream-Children; A Reverie" and "Modern Gallantry" among others. Lamb a long-time clerk for the British East India Company began writing essays under the pseudonym "Elia" which he derived from a former colleague's surname. Lamb wrote in a colloquial and conversational style that made his essays beloved by his Edwardian and Victorian readers. Additionally Lamb included many of his friends and family in his writing loosely disguised by initials and pseudonyms.
