From Foreword: This is the first of a series of publications on the field identification of the marsh and water plants of eaastern North America. It describes twenty-seven pondweeds and thirteen non-pondweeds. Current manuals describe several other kinds of pondweed which I consider to be only variations of those treated here. Pondweed seeds and rootstocks are among the most important water-fowl foods. Pondweeds are common in freshwater lakes ponds streams and marshes from Manitoba to Newfoundland and south to New Jersey and Iowa. A few kinds grow father north and south; a few grow in the fresh and brackish waters of coastal bays rivers and ponds. Government Printing Office, 1964. Circular 187. unknown books

1941WRCLIT63970Prairie City IL: Black Faun Press 1941. 4pp. leaflet 15.3 x 9 cm. Fine. A bibliographically curious prospectus announcing the forthcoming publication by the Black Faun Press - an affiliate of the Press of James A. Decker - of the anthology eventually printed at the Walpole Printing Office and published under the imprint of the Gotham Book Mart in 1941 under a slightly variant title. The prospectus calls for both the limited and trade issues that were actually published but any actual involvement of the Black Faun Press in the published book seems not to have come about or to have fallen apart in the planning stages.
