Petrus Gyllius 1490-1555 was a French naturalist who travelled the Mediteranean and the Orient and reported on the natural world. He was also a translator and this appears to represent a translation of a work by Claudius Aelianus 175AD-235AD. It has some very early descriptions of animals including elphants. However there are no illustrations. Â This is a somewhat rare work that appears to have surfaced only once or twice at auction in the past 25 years. The OCLC locates only a couple of copies of this edition. The work was originally published in 1533. OCLC.</p> Seb. Gryphium books
