Very good. <br /> <br /> Nice association copy of this autobiography by one of the prominent musical voices in the Harlem Renaissance Ethel Waters. From playing the nightclubs such as Edmond's Cellar and the Plantation Club on Broadway she went on to perform at the Cotton Club in the 1930s with Duke Ellington where she debuted one of her most well known songs "Stormy Weather." She would continue her trailblazing in 1939 when she became the first African American to star in her own television show. She was also the second African American to be nominated for an Academy Award and the first African American woman to be nominated for an Emmy.<br /> <br /> <br /> This copy is inscribed to trumpeter Clarence Eugene or "Gene" Shaw who played with Lester Young Wardell Gray and later Charles Mingus on his Tijuana Moods album and others. . 1950003618Albuquerque: University of New Mexico Press 1950. Book. Fine. Hardcover. Signed by Authors. 1st Edition. Unique Limited Signed Edition number 49 of 300 copies. The original first edition had been out of print for a year and a half when Sage publishing printed a second edition. Subsequently 300 copies of the original first edition published by the University of New Mexico were found at the bindery. This edition was prized over the Sage edition because it contains an introduction and color printing that the less expensive Sage edition did not. A limitation page was tipped in which was signed by Frank Waters. The dustjacket is price clipped and has very light rubbing to the front flap fold and the spine ends. This copy is housed in a unique red slipcase with Indian art on the spine. Book is protected in a custom cut clear mylar cover. All books are carefully wrapped and shipped in a box.
