In 1943 he was appointed Head of the Mathematics Research Group at the Kellex Corporation where he worked on programs related to the Manhattan Project. Eventually he accepted a professorship at the University of Maryland. He did significant work on traffic flow and continuous-time random walk and received the Lanchester Prize in 1959.
