"A fundamental work in plant geography" - Stafleu & Cowan. From the library of the nurseryman Will Ingwersen with his bookplate on the front endpaper. This also contains the signature of Joannes Fraser and many neat manuscript annotations and corrections throughout the text; some place names are underlined lightly in red ink on the map also. The cintents of the plates has been written on the blank leaves at the rear. It seems likely that this is John Fraser the younger a nurseryman and traveller. First Edition. Half-Leather. Very Good. With the bookplate of Kenneth Lazenby a founding member of the Alpine Garden Society. RARE. Von Wulfen 1728 - 1805 was an Austrian botanist zoologist mineralogist alpinist and Jesuit priest and an early follower of Linnaeus and the binomial system. He is credited with discovering the flowering plants Wulfenia carinthiaca Saxifraga moschata and Stellaria bulbosa. In 1845 the lead molybdate mineral wulfenite was named in his honor. The second issue of the first volume RARE. Tenore was an Italian botanist with extensive publications. He helped establish the Botanical Garden of Naples and became its director in 1810. He also served as president of the Accademia nazionale delle scienze and served as president of the Accademia Pontaniana six times from the 1830s through the 1850s.
