First edition of this scarce work examining forest zones forestry practices and lumber and wood available in Japanese forests and tree farms at the end of the Meiji Era. In addition to discussion of forestry resources and the practices for Imperial Public and Private forests there are also discussions of conservation for certain forests either for aesthetic reasons or in maintaining environmental diversity and fish stocks. The collotype photographs are particularly well done and are reminiscent of the images produced by Kazumasa Ogawa 1860-1929 a pioneer in Japanese photography and photomechanical printing who had introduced collotype printing to Japan in the 1890s.
