1905857T29London: William Heinemann 1905. Paperback. Good. 8.5" by 6". None. A scarce paperback edition of Flora Annie Steel's novel on the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Scarce work. Hailed by critics as one of the best novels dealing with the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Based heavily on research that Steel conducted in India so much so that Steel often provides the accurate hour date and weather of important historical events that interweave through the plot and characters of the novel. The narrative shifts among three different points of view: the royal family of Delhi the native Indian soldiers and the English army that takes Delhi. Written by Flora Annie Steel an English writer who lived in British India for 22 years. In the original paper wraps. Externally sound with chipping to the extremities. Some discolouration due to ageing. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine. Tear to the rear joint but remains firm. Ink inscription to the front board. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with age toning to the extremities. Good William Heinemann paperback
194121-1215aFrom the front DJ flap: "The history of the Indian agents from pre-Civil War days down to the present time is a subject which has long been neglected by historians. And yet the story of these intrepid men who played such an important part inn opening up the West to civilization and in settling a critical racial problem is one of the most romantic and important in our history. It has remained for Flora Warren Seymour a skilled writer as well as an expert on Indian affairs to write the complete history of the Indian Agent. D. Appleton-Century hardcover
