19301950<p>The Girl's Own Paper was an illustrated weekly paper which from 1880 to 1956 could be found in most British homes. More for young women than 'girls' it combined a mixture of stories and educational articles musical scores and poetry and items about cooking sewing and housekeeping. It evolved to include career advice and articles about science as well as pieces about a woman's responsibilities. It became a significant cultural touchstone helping to document and shape British society.</p><p>At the end of every year the issues of the paper were gathered together in the Girl's Own Annual. <br />This is a copy of Volume 51 the Annual for 1930.<br />It is from the first printing; there was a second printing in this year with green covers.</p><p>Image 1 is a scan.</p><p>9" x 11" x 1 1/2" and just under 6 lbs.</p><p>800 pages packed with photos and illustrations.</p><p>There is a re-glued tear to the bottom left of the cover and a bump to the bottom right of the cover. Minor wear to the back.<br />On the front endpaper there is an inscription from father to daughter.</p><p>The daughter didn't read it apparently. 19400012042Factoryville Pennsylvania. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1940. Manuscript. On offer is a sweet letter written to Mrs. Daisy Ball Bailey 1897-1964 of Dalton Pennsylvania from her friend Flora who lives in nearby Factoryville PA. The letter was written on May 12 1940 and addressed to Daisy at home in Dalton although at the time of writing Daisy was hospitalized having undergone surgery. The letter is four pages one single page folded in half with writing on four sides. Throughout the entire letter Flora provides Daisy with multiple reasons possibly excuses as to why she was unable to come to the hospital to visit her. Floras reasons include: she was packing she was busy serving her husbands colleagues meals Daisys husband never told her the visiting hours at the hospital and that she got lost on the way to the hospital. She then sends Daisy endless good wishes including a wish that Daisy would come and stay with her soon. While it was written over 80 years ago it will ring very true to any modern person who is trying and failing to do it all. This letter would be a great reminder that we are all doing our best and would look perfect framed in the office of a busy and hard-working 21st century person. The letter is written in pencil and is very legible. Paper shows some signs of age toning and folds are visible. No rips or tears. The envelope is present but the stamp has been cut out.
