A letter from staff of the Berkeley Tribe self-described as "short but heavy." The letter addresses the recent purchase of the Berkeley Barb by Alan Coult from Max Scherr after negotiations for a sale to Tribe members broke down. The letter expresses distaste for Coult as well as disappointment in the Barb under his ownership while touting the Berkeley Tribe. The Berkeley Tribe was a radical counterculture underground newspaper from Berkeley California formed after a split with the Berkeley Barb over labor and ownership see this letter issues. The Tribe embraced more radical and left wing causes than the Barb. GOOD condition. Fold crease present. Moderate to heavy uneven browning especially along the right edge. When the staff of the Berkeley Barb went on strike against publisher Max Scherr they printed one issue of Barb on Strike before starting the Berkeley Tribe at issue 2 thus this is the Tribe's true first issue. Cover shows photo of Max's face within a clenched fist. Bulk of the issue consists of short Barb-style news items with the two main articles devoted to the trial of accused bomber Wayne Green and to the Barb strike itself. Red Mountain Tribe unknown
