This document certifies that a family of three comprising parents and a young boy residing in Ōmi Domain present-day Shiga Prefecture are not Christians and are affiliated with a Jōdo sect Buddhist temple the temple name is unclear. The document is dated March 1863 and bears the signature of the head priest of the temple. <br> <br>Such certificates commonly known as terauke were issued between 1671 and 1873 as part of the Tokugawa authorities' system for suppressing Christianity. They also functioned as a means of population registration linking individuals and households to Buddhist institutions for administrative and taxation purposes. . unknown

The initial binder's blank is inscribed 'To Mrs Tennant With Mary Gardner's Kindest Love. North Terrace. 28 Augst 1862'. With more than a little help from the 'Australian Dictionary of Biography' we have discovered this was a wedding present. On that day Rachael Christina Ferguson married a young Andrew Tennant 1835-1913 pastoralist and politician Tennant Creek is named after his father. One of their daughters Rosina Forsyth Tennant married the pastoralist William Tennant Mortlock yes genealogy is sometimes confusing. One of their children was John Andrew Tennant Mortlock 1894-1950 pastoralist and philanthropist. Per Wikipedia Timothy Dwight 1752 - 1817 Was An American Academic And Educator A Congregationalist Minister Theologian And Author. He Was The Eighth President Of Yale College 1795-1817. His Mother Mary Edwards 1734-1807 Was The Third Daughter Of Theologian Jonathan Edwards. Dwight Was Said To Have Learned The Alphabet At A Single Lesson And To Have Been Able To Read The Bible Before He Was Four Years Old.He Had 12 Younger Siblings Including Journalist Theodore Dwight 1764-1846.Dwight First Came To Public Attention With His Yale College 1772 Commencement Address When He Received His M.A. Degree4 And Later His "Valedictory Address" Of 1776 In Which He Described Americans As Having A Unique National Identity As A New "People Who Have The Same Religion The Same Manners The Same Interests The Same Language And The Same Essential Forms And Principles Of Civic Government." In 1793 Dwight Preached A Sermon To The General Association Of Connecticut Entitled A "Discourse On The Genuineness And Authenticity Of The New Testament" Which When Printed The Next Year Became An Important Tract Defending The Orthodox Faith Against Deists And Other Skeptics. Dwight Was The Leader Of The Evangelical New Divinity Faction Of Congregationalism A Group Closely Identified With Connecticut's Emerging Commercial Elite. Although Fiercely Opposed By Religious Moderates Most Notably Yale President Ezra Stiles He Was Elected To The Presidency Of Yale On Stiles's Death In 1795. Shortly Afterwards Dwight Was Elected An Honorary Member Of The Connecticut Society Of The Cincinnati. His Ability As A Teacher And His Talents As A Religious And Political Leader Soon Made The College The Largest Institution Of Higher Education In North America. Dwight Had A Genius For Recognizing Able Protégé Such As James Murdock Lyman Beecher Nathaniel W. Taylor And Leonard Bacon All Of Whom Would Become Major Religious Leaders And Theological Innovators In The Antebellum Decades. During Troubled Times At Yale College President Timothy Dwight Saw His Students Drawn To The Radical Republicanism And "Infidel Philosophy" Of The French Revolution Including The Philosophies Of Hume Hobbes Tindal And Lords Shaftesbury And Bolingbroke. Between 1797 And 1800 Dwight Frequently Warned Audiences Against The Threats Of This "Infidel Philosophy" In America. An Address To The Candidates For The Baccalaureate In Yale College Called "The Nature And Danger Of Infidel Philosophy Exhibited In Two Discourses Addressed To The Candidates For The Baccalaureate In Yale College" Was Delivered On September 9 1797. It Was Published By George Bunce In 1798. This Book Is Credited As One Of The Embers Of The Second Great Awakening. 1885143501885. A collection of three 19th-Century Photographs of the Mosque of Omar Umayyad and of "Prophet Mahomed's Family Tomb." Overall image size is 8.5" x 11." The image on the left shows the inside court and buildings of The Umayyad Mosque also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus in Syria one of the largest mosques in the world. It is considered by some Muslims to be the fourth-holiest place in Islam and is one of the oldest mosques in the world. The image is titled "Damas - Court de la grande Mosque." Circa 1880s. The center image is an albumen photograph of the interior of the Mosque of Omar Dome of the Rock and the Foundation Stone in Jerusalem. The foundation stone is in the foreground with the intricately decorated architecture of the dome in the background. In the Muslim faith the Dome of the Rock is the site of the Islamic miracle of the Isra and Miraj. The final image shows the Bab al-Saghir cemetery in Damascus Syria where lie the graves of many relatives of Muhammad. A large mosque is visible on the horizon. This image is titled "Damas - Tombeaue de la familile de Mahomed." Damascus - Tomb of the Family of Mohammed. Circa 1880s. A One-inch tear has been skillfully repaired. There is evidence of early worming along the front hinge. An early owner's inscription dated 1833 is penned on the front endpaper.
