This is a souvenir programme for the 19th annual conference of the Federation of Grocers' Associations held in Oxford between the 5th and 9th July 1909 by the Oxford and District Grocers' Association. The Grocers' Federation was started in 1891. At its 19th conference the Federation consisted of 130 Associations representing about 14000 shops. In this programme is a history of Oxford and of the Oxford and District Grocers' Association with the names and portraits of members of the various committees. There is also a summary of the events of the conference and a couple of accounts of excursions during the conference. In the publisher's original half cloth binding. Externally smart though a little soiled to the boards with minor wear to the extremities and joints. Spine is slightly slanted. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. According to a small press cutting laid in the exhibition attracted over 100 visitors and featured "a discussion of Ibsen by four experts tape recorded along with guttural sounds recognized as belonging to Ibsen's voice.". Wrappers a little duststained small mark to front inside wrapper otherwise Good. Laid in is an interesting 4 pp manuscript letter dated 26th March 1957 from one of the exhibition organizers Robert Nelson of Ruthven Coldstream Berwickshire to the distinguished collector of literary forgeries Stuart B.
