19653745U. S. Department of Health Education and Welfare Social Security Administration 1965. The pamphlet is in very good plus to near fine condition. Slight discoloration to the bottom edge. The pamphlet is clean minus the circling of the date on the rear flap in blue ink. Quite possibly the first document outlining the benefits and eligibility requirements of Medicare for American citizens. Rare with no other copies currently available for sale.

In 2010 Medicare provided health insurance to 48 million Americans—40 million people age 65 and older and eight million younger people with disabilities. Medicare serves a large population of old sick and low-income people many of whom would be unable to afford health care otherwise. On average Medicare covers about half 48 percent of health care costs for enrollees. Medicare enrollees must cover the rest of the cost. These out-of-pocket costs vary depending on the amount of health care a Medicare enrollee needs. They might include uncovered services—such as long-term dental hearing and vision care—and supplemental insurance.-Wikipedia

Please view the many other rare titles available for purchase at our store. 1919189681919. Survey of Relief to Widows and Children Presented to Parliament by Command of His Majesty. Ministry of Health. 186 pages. London: His Majesty's Stationary Office 1919. Measures 9.5" x 6." Issued under the rule of George V a champion of welfare reform and social work. A landmark government report on post-World War I welfare policy documenting the scope administration and social implications of public assistance to widows and dependent children in Britain. Issued by the Ministry of Health and presented to Parliament in the immediate aftermath of the war this 186-page survey represents one of the earliest comprehensive attempts to analyze the treatment and conditions of war widows and impoverished families under the Poor Law system and other charitable schemes. The report is presented in dense statistical tables and detailed narrative assessments distinguishing between rural and urban jurisdictions and evaluating the differential treatment of illegitimate children and the moral assumptions underlying state relief. As stated in the Survey's prefatory note the decision to publish a report on the well-being of windows and children arose after a 1914 House of Lords case in which a poor mother was convicted of child cruelty. The woman whose earnings were 10 shillings a week locked her children in a rented room "where they were found in an indescribable state and in a mental condition bordering upon idiocy." The mother said she did not want to seek governmental assistance for fear that her family would be separated. This resulting survey examines the efficacy of Britain's social safety net as well as that of the United States. It contains case studies investigations and inspections. Staplebound in brown wrappers. Some rust and foxing around staples. Front wrap bears royal seal and a stamp. Interesting and in very good condition. unknown

William Howard Hay 1866-1940 was the inventor of the "The Hay Diet". He was a New York physician who created a plan that prohibited the consumption of starches and proteins during the same meal. William Howard Hay began developing the food-combining diet in 1904 to treat himself for medical conditions including a dilated heart. He lost 50 22.7 kilograms pounds in approximately three months and recovered from the conditions. This copy has an interesting provenance. It was part of the private collection of the late Dr. Brian Beynon Lloyd 1920-2010 Emeritus Fellow of Magdalen College Oxford and former Chairman of the Health Education Council. He lectured at Oxford for two decades and was an adviser to Sir Roger Bannister on nutrition helping him to break the four minute barrier for the mile. He was appointed a CBE in 1983 for his pioneering work in highlighting the dangers of smoking. He was also Director of the International Nutrition Federation. He was a friend of both J R R Tolkien and C S Lewis. A scarce book and inexplicably uncommon in its original dustwrapper. Photographs/scans available upon request. Harrap hardcover
