Patience Worth the spirit of a woman who supposedly lived in the late 17th century in Dorsetshire England and immigrated to America before being killed by Native Americans began communicating with Pearl Leonore Curran of Mound City Illinois in 1913. Patience gave inspiration through a ouija board and in the form of vivid pictorial visions. This collaboration between spirit and human woman produced several novels prose and poetry of which this is a collection.<br /> <br /> Inscription to the front wrapper reads "With best wishes To Dr. . from . E. L. Beach 175 E 80th St." And with seemingly more divined poetry "From Patience I in ing have poured this wine within a cup. Let those who hath thirst - drink. For the self shall be as the peace upon his soul. And the goblet shall ne'er run dry." In keeping with much of the religious undertones to Patience's poetry this passage recalls John 4:14 "whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."<br /> <br /> An Easter Greeting is an anthology of verse poetry with interjections by Patience in something approximating what a 17th century rural woman would sound like "Haed I a pettiskirt wi' a proper frill / I'd sit on a throne fit for a princess."<br /> <br /> A rare product of the spirit realm. Rare in such a lovely jacket.<p>The second novel by bestselling author and poet Pearl L. Curran who claimed to be channelling the spirit of Patience Worth a 17th century English immigrant to America. In a Smithsonian Magazine article Gioia Diliberto writes: "Speaking through a Ouija board operated by Pearl Lenore Curran a St. Louis housewife of limited education Patience Worth was nothing short of a national phenomenon in the early years of the 20th century. The memoirs of Pearl Fay White 1889 – 1938 who rose to popularity as an actress on the stage screen given the nickname the ‘Queen of the Serials’ most notably as the spirited ingenue / heroine in The Perils of Pauline which catapulted her into international stardom. Some of her other notable films include The Exploits of Elaine The House of Hate and The Lightning Raider. Sadly Ms. White was unable to find success in feature films and retired from acting in 1923. She was married twice - first to actor Victor Sutherland 1907 - 1914 then to actor Wallace McCutcheon 1919 - 1921. Pearl White's place in film history is important in both the evolution of cinema genres and the role of women in the film industry and she has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Tragically many of her films are officially considered to be lost. The 1947 film The Perils of Pauline is a fictionalized biography of Pearl White starring Betty Hutton as White with John Lund Billy De Wolfe William Demarest and Constance Collier. George H.
