This is the first book on Bellmer's work edited by Christian d'Orgeix comprising drawings and several examples of his famous poupées. The first of Bellmer's poupées "dates from a period in which repelled by National Socialism he gave up his work as a graphic artist and turned his back on his German homeland" Walter Schurian Fantastic Art 2005 p. 62. Bellmer finally settled in Paris in the spring of 1938 where his work was already recognized by the Surrealists. Small quarto. Self-portrait frontispiece 23 illustrations on 18 plates illustration to colophon leaf title page and headings printed in pale purple. Loose leaved as issued in white wrappers printed in pale purple and black. With the original glassine wrapper.
