"Prenant la direction de la revue Littérature en 1922, André Breton fait appel à Francis Picabia et à Man Ray pour illustrer une revue jusqu'alors presque exclusivement investie par des écrivains. Saisissant l'occasion, Picabia inaugure un nouveau style en concevant les couvertures des neufs numéros de la revue, compositions tour à tour étranges, cocasses ou irrévérencieuses. Pour la première fois depuis leur entrée dans la collection du Centre Pompidou, ce catalogue dévoile les dessins originaux de ces couvertures augmentés de pas moins de dix-sept projets alternatifs, restés inconnus jusqu'à il y a peu.
