Trading card, Very Small (slightly less than 2x1) . Dominion Athletic Stars Sports Card (Card Nr 14) from a series of 120 pictures of Canadian athletes which were given away in Dominion Chocolate Bars in the mid-1920s. This card features a photo on the front of the champion Toronto Y. W. H. A. Basketball Team, featuring 8 female team members in their YWHA jerseys, plus their 2 coaches. The Canadian Jewish Review of June 8, 1923, reported that at the Primrose Club last Tuesday, the Y. M. And Y. W. H. A. Of Toronto celebrated their victories in sports by tendering a banquet to the winning teams and presenting the cups and trophies to the successful players. The best feature of the evening was the presentation of the Griff Clark Trophy to the Y. W. H. A. Basket ball team, champions of the city. Text on reverse. Quite probably the only explicitly Jewish womens sports team featured on a mass-market trading card in the 1920s, and probably the first ever. Light wear, photo is clear, Good Condition. (women-4-13)

L’album è dedicato a tre sports, ciascuno introdotto da una pagina di titolo illustrata, con bellissime tavole a colori e, a fronte, il relativo testo decorato da una pregevole grande iniziale figurata. Vi sono contenuti: - I. "Fox-Hunting" “A Hunting We Will Go”, narrato da Henry Fielding, di pp.nn. 20. - II. "Shooting" “The Joys of Fowling”, di pp.nn. 16. - III. "Fishing" “The Angler’s song”, di pp.nn. 12. Nel ns. esemplare non figurano le 3 tavole sciolte, dedicate a ciascuno dei 3 sports, dai seguenti titoli: “In the Open” - “The First” - “A Likely Spot”. Cecil Aldin (1870-1935) è stato un grande artista britannico conosciuto per la sua collezione di illustrazioni dedicate alla vita rurale e agli animali, i cani soprattutto, di tutte le taglie e di tutte le razze: i cani infatti rappresentavano per lui un mondo da scoprire, cercando di coglierne gli aspetti interiori. Solo la legatura è sciupata, altrimenti esemplare ben conservato.

This book does not have a publication date. It was not published in 1900. Marked, scratched and scuffed ring bound plastic hardcover with bumped leading corners and slightly bowed boards. Ring binding is rusty. Page block and pages are grubby. Section dividers between pages are creased and grubby with very neat handwritng. Pages are slightly warped. Lower edges of some pages are creased and nicked. Binding is sound, and text remains clear throughout. T Used
