Historically fencing has been primarily a men's sport and though women have been fencing for hundreds of years there was still heavy stigma against women taking up any sport. After WWI many French fencing schools opened up classes for women to grow their economy. This act opened up the doors for women to eventually be allowed to fence in the Olympics in 1924. This set of six stereoviews showcase two women fencers with a female referee and a group of female viewers. Each stereoview is numbered in the order of the duel; the first shows the two women facing each other with their swords down the second and third show the women mid duel and the last three show the victor heralding over the defeated opponent with two women side by side helping her recover. Minor wear to edges some sunning and wear to photos. Overall only good condition. unknown

A straightforward account of the qualities of 21 kinds of fish including flounder eel perch salmon pike trout and others less well known bleak guinead and brief instructions as to how to catch them; the sixpenny pamphlet ends with a three-page discussion of various worms and how to obtain them. Westwood and Satchell list this work similiar to that of Thomas Best's A Concise Treatise on the Art of Angling London 1787 without authorial attribution. The words "but Comprehensive" in the title suggest that this was intended as a sequel to Best a popular work which went into numerous editions. <br /> The words "embellished with a frontispiece" have been effaced from the title page suggesting that for a long time this copy has been lacking the plate as also in the copy retained at Yale. Assembled by a party of men on an extended tour and hunting expedition in the area the album documents numerous locations in southwest Florida in the period immediately following the extension of the Florida Southern Railroad into the Peace River region in 1886. All of the photographs are captioned in ink and all but the first nine which were taken at Interlachen near Gainesville relate to southwest Florida. The album includes scenes of the grounds of Charles Francis Jr. at Interlachen and the residence of Goerge Long; the railway station an office car and a street scene at Trabue; views of the Hotel Punta Gorda under construction; waterfront scenes along the Punta Rassa; views of Fort Myers; a Spanish Fishing village; a "Cracker" family and their orange grove; Judge Ziba King and his house at Fort Ogden; scenes of the Myakka River Bartow and Zolfo Springs and a number of hunting and camping scenes. Nineteenth century photographic albums of Florida are very scarce; the present album shows the rural landscape of southwest Florida at the dawn of the modern age. unknown
