Excellente étude décrivant les oiseaux de mer, de rivière et de marais, et l'histoire naturelle de toutes ces espèces qui visitent nos contrées. Elle constitue une ornithologie complète de la sauvagine, agréable à lire. Les notices des oiseaux contiennent d’intéressants détails sur leur chasse. Traveling in the mountains and valleys of Burma and adjacent areas, including the unexplored country on the Burma-Tibet frontier, in 1922, 1926 and 1930-31, this famous botanical explorer describes plants, nature and native customs in his usual readable way. There are appendices on zoological specimens collected and new plants he introduced to Europe that he found in Burma.
Very Good Dutch Original albumen print photograph of Joseph Devos, a Dutch hunter in Belgian Congo, showing him in front of an antelope hunted and hung from the ceiling by the feet, with two Congolese natives. 11.5 x 9.5 cm. A handwritten note in Dutch on verso: "Antilope wegende 40 a 50 kilos geschoten 10 November 1911" [i.e. Antelope weighing 40 to 50 kilos shot November 10, 1911], and signed "Joseph Devos". The inscription "Belgian Congo" is seen on the stone. Four pinholes and slight chippings on corners. Overall very good condition.

A picture of this book is available upon request by email. A description of the famous plant hunter's adventure with his wife together with descriptions of the flora, fauna and scenery. On this expedition, he discovered a new lily, Lilium Mackliniae, that was introduced to the world of gardening soon after. The author became familiar with this area between Assam and Burma, when he was employed by the US army in world war II searching for crashed aircraft.
