8vo., First Edition thus, with frontispiece, and 23 full-page and 9 vignette wood-engravings in the text, some mild offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers; green cloth, upper board blocked in gilt with the author's 'Owl' device, gilt back, a very good, bright, clean copy in unclipped, moderately age-soiled dustwrapper, the latter browned at backstrip. The number of stories has been reduced from the twelve of the first edition to nine; those excluded being 'No Eel for Nog', 'Mewliboy', 'Chakchek's Raid on London', 'The Yellow Boots' and 'The Old Pond'. Two stories are revised - 'Bill Brock's Good Turn' becomes 'The Epic of Brock the Badger' and 'A Day with the Jelly-Dogs' becomes 'My Day with the Beagles'. One new story, 'Redeye', is added. In this Cheaper Edition the dustwrapper carries the illustration from p.283 (stag in river) on front panel, tailpiece from p.286 (stag lying) on backstrip and advertisements for 'Tarka', 'Swallows' and 'Peregrine' on rear panel.
