This unique artifact is the companion to a 1975 history-oriented booze cruise on the James created by and for a group calling themselves the International Society of Hunters Bums and Poker-Players. 14" x 8 1/2" self-bound book titled "Points of Interest Along the Historic James for the Antony & Cleopatra's Barge Party #3 Spring Outing". Ten pages of 40 points of interest relating to early American history lead into 46 pages of photocopied maps charts and other historical resources. A hand-drawn map of the trip is copied on the back cover.~~Although we have no idea who belonged to this creatively named social group we know they were likely Virginia natives enthusiastic about their history and that they were also a fun-loving group. Of interest is Point of Interest #7 Sandy Beach Island where "R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.R.C. members learned to swim an excellent location for skinny dipping." ~~Moderate tears to covers otherwise pretty good. unknown

Book is in excellent condition in heavy weave dark red cloth with gilt print and cover and spine with romanesque drawing on cover and gilt top page ends. Handsome book. Corners are lightly bumped, light scuffing to covers. Binding is solid and square, exterior shows no other blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. 372 pages with 112 ilustrations throughout in b&w with prints and photos. Not a cheap knock-off.

Amusante lettre d'un officier qui, ne pouvant pas acheter de vin, en demande à un citoyen (un autre militaire ?) : « L'Etat-major du bataillon des chasseurs républicains, s'étant assemblé, pour affaire de corps ; je prie le citoyen D'anicourt de remettre au porteur quatre bouteilles de vin de liqueur dont deux de Malaga dont je lui remettrai les prix. S'il n'y avait un marchand qui en vendit, je ne prierais pas le citoyen d'anicourt de me faire une pareille cession. [date]. P.S. On préférerait deux bouteilles de vin de Champagne aux autre vin de dessert ». On trouve peu de choses sur cet Aldebert, il est juste cité dans le livre de Savary sur les guerres de Vendée publié en 1824. Amusant courrier sur les besoins en vin de l'armée. [308]
