Notre affiche témoigne des efforts de Napoléon lors des Cent-Jours (mars-juillet 1815) à mettre tout en oeuvre pour favoriser "les enrôlements volontaires", alors que "des bataillons de Garde nationale s'organisent sur tous les points de France, et volent à la défense de nos villes frontières". Le décret du 5 mai s'inspirait du dispositif imaginé en 1808, qui avait consisté à créer dans les départements pyrénéens des bataillons de chasseurs de Montagne, ouverts aux conscrits réfractaires nombreux dans la région frontalière, qui en s'enrôlant voyaient leurs peines suspendues. Très efficace en 1808, le dispositif n'eut pas le temps de se mettre en place en 1815 malgré les arrêtés préfectoraux incitatifs. Featuring 'Sergeant Tombs, whose Passion for Experiment led him to Destruction'. A wonderful example of sardonic 'Tommy' humour from the trenches, somewhere between Belloc's 'Cautionary Tales' and Graham's 'Ruthless Rhymes'. EXTREMELY SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.
