A few foxmarks on frontispiece light offsetting of frontispiece onto title otherwise internally clean and unblemished the binding tight slight toning to the spine extremities just touched with some light wear. 8vo 9 x 6.25 inches. 146 pages. Color frontispiece black-and-white plates. Original two-toned cloth gilt-titled on front cover in black on the spine decorated endpapers. SCARCE FIRST EDITION one of only 500 privately-printed copies most of which were distributed to members of the club another issue from the same year was published in salmon wrappers of which there were 400 copies stated. The Saint Andrews Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson New York is the oldest golf club in the United States. John Reid of Dunfermline Scotland founded the club in 1888. It has existed in its current site since 1897 and features an 18-hole golf course designed by golf course architects William H. Tucker and Harry Tallmadge. On top is the "Cote de Perse." Engraving depicts "Fortresse" "Ile de Kishom ou Quixema" "Entre des Vaisseaux" "Porte de derriere" "Parade Alkoran" "St. Lucia" "Lardimira" with illustrations of ships and fortress. Arab ships on the left and European ships with large masts and multiple sails on the right. Five Arab ships in the foreground. In the foreground representing the Arabian peninsula. The Portuguese explorer Afonso de Albuquerque captured the island in 1507 and it became a part of the Portuguese Empire. The Portuguese constructed a fortress on the island the Fort of Our Lady of the Conception which is represented in this etching. But in 1622 the island was captured from the Portuguese by a combined Anglo-Persian force. The island then became part of Persia Iran and later part of Oman. Paper has been folded three times. Overall page size is 13.5" x 9.5." Image size is 7.5" x 9.75." Overall in very good condition. unknown books
