Magnifico esemplare d'un classico sulla pesca soprattutto al lancio, arricchito dalle biografie dei due estensori e da una serie di aggiornamenti sui tipi e luoghi deputati alla pesca. Splendida la parte iconografica, in ottimo stato (solo qualche lievissima menda alla legatura), assai poco comune edizione.

Originally published as two volumes folio in 1879, Houghton's 'Fishes' is one of the finest illustrated natural history works of the nineteenth century, with fine coloured plates by Lydon and woodblock prints by Fawcett. The daunting cost of the original publication led to the present (second) edition (published by Fawcett and aimed at the angler rather than the collector) which replaces the coloured plates with tinted views but retains the fine engraved illustrations of species in the text. First published in 1857 with a second edition in 1866, this classic treatise takes the form of genial dialogues between novice and master, based on more than two decades of practical experience. This is the best and most expanded edition: 'the reader will not have not only the original copy revised but a great amount of useful information on Angling which hitherto has not been published'.
