China misure: mm 209 x 291 Pittore, disegnatore e incisore italiano. Inizia ad avvicinarsi alla pittura grazie al fratello Pietro, pittore ritrattista, segue poi i corsi dell'Accademia di San Luca. Paesaggista apprezzato, soprattutto da inglesi e polacchi, trasforma il genere attribuendogli un valore storico e documentario. Con l'archeologo sir Richard Colt Hoare, nel 1789, percorre il cammino sulla Via Appia verso Brindisi seguendo la descrizione fatta da Orazio nella satira V. Durante questo viaggio realizza diversi schizzi dal vivo, disegni a penna acquerellati a seppia, commissionatagli dallo stesso Hoare, alcuni di questi disegni sono stati raccolti in album e tradotti in incisioni. Presso il British Museum, la Biblioteca Vaticana e la Biblioteca Sarti dell'Accademia di S. Luca a Roma conservano disegni di Labruzzi. In questo foglio, tramite un segno nitido e guizzante, l'autore compone un scenetta tipica della pittura capricciosa veneta. In primo piano ai piedi di un grande albero due donne, una in piedi e l'altra seduta, osservano un uomo che sta pescando. Una linea di contorno netta definisce le sagome mentre un tratto più nervoso da plasticità e cromatismo ai soggetti. In secondo piano sulla sinistra altri due uomini si cimentano nella pesca, a destra un fitto boschetto solo accennato è funzionale allo scandire della profondità dei piani. In basso firma a penna: Carlo Labruzzi Per Lord Vicam nel suo quadro/ 1787 (?). Si tratta forse di un disegno che l'autore offre al proprietario del quadro copiandone un dettaglio. Lord Vicam potrebbe essere William Wickham (1761-1840), discusso politico e spia inglese. Ottimo stato di conservazione, eccetto alcune pieghe nel foglio.

A large part of the work relates to transgressions in the West Indies. There is also a section dealing with fishing rights off the Greenland coast. Prima e assai rara compilazione di quest'opera dell'avvocato Francesco Avolio di Paola (1763 – 1838): si parla molto delle tonnare, si espone il trattato intono al viaggio dei tonni (se detti pesci siano cioè passeggieri o abbiano nascimento e stanziamento nei mari siciliani), si discute sopra i privilegi concessi ai marinari impiegati nelle tonnare e su certe liberalità delle medesime; si parla di pesca nazionale, delle leggi sulla pesca del corallo, della pesca nei porti e si accenna a quella fatta nel porto di Siracusa, delle leggi dei fiumi, laghi, vivai; delle magistrature marittime della Sicilia, proponendone l'abolizione in favore di una Società Economica; infine si affrontano i regolamenti per la vendita del pesce e le gravità che pesano sulle pescagioni siciliane. Censito da iccu in pochissimi esemplari (Mira, I, pp. 64). Esemplare in vecchia ma non originale e modesta legatura (con sottostante rimanenza, al front. e all'ultima bianca, di carta azzurrina della brossura originale) rivestimento del dorso difettato, modestissimo foxing solo a poche carte, una piccola mancanza della carta al foglio delle pp. 91 recto e 92 verso ha creato una lacuna al margine superiore e ha omesso un paio di parole, peraltro esemplare completo, pulito e marginoso, ben conservato nel suo insieme.

La reliure est frottée avec coupure sur le haut du dos du tome 1, épidermures. Le corps de chacun des volumes est en bon état, quelques rares brunissures sans gravité. Malgré les défauts de reliure décrits ici, reste un très bon ouvrage.

Les hors texte sont des reproductions photographiques de scènes de pêche dans lesquelles les lieux et outils de la pêche : filets, nasses, bateaux… sont mis en valeur; les dessins présentent les différents instruments de la pêche. Les 200 dernières pages sont consacrées, suivant un classement alphabétique des départements, aux arrêts préfectoraux réglementant la pêche fluviale et aux décrets instituant des réserves pour favoriser la reproduction du poisson. Documentation exceptionnelle sur les techniques de la pêche fluviale et sur les instruments de pêche. Petite épidermure en haut du dos, quelques rousseurs par endroits, rousseurs sur les tranches, néanmoins très bon exemplaire dans une reliure solide. Ouvrage assez rare, édité à l'occasion de l'Exposition Internationale 1900 de Paris, dont il se dit que la plupart des exemplaires auraient été détruits pour lutter contre le braconnage.

Il primo volume si compone di quattro parti: nella prima si dimostra come l'epoca della sua istituzione sia piu' antica di quanto si ritiene; la seconda tratta dei ricchi stabilimenti posseduti dalla corporazione dal 1034 sino al 1778, nella terza compaiono gli statuti e le leggi dell'antico ordine, nella quarta commenti, notizie ed atti desunti da un antico codice in pergamena.
