E succede che nel giro di un attimo la tua vita cambia così all'improvviso da scuoterti nel profondo. È quello che è accaduto a Oney Tapia nel 2011: mentre lavorava come tree climber alla potatura di un albero, un ramo gli è caduto sugli occhi facendogli perdere per sempre la vista. All'improvviso il buio ha avvolto il suo mondo, costringendolo a fare i conti con la cecità, una condizione nuova e drammatica. Lui, che è sempre stato un uomo d'azione, atletico e instancabile, è dovuto scendere a patti con una realtà durissima e all'inizio totalmente sconosciuta. Senza vedere, fare le cose di tutti i giorni, anche quelle semplici e banali, diventa la più grande delle sfide. Ma Oney è un guerriero nato e cresciuto a Cuba, e non rimane con le mani in mano. Si butta nello sport per tirare fuori l'energia e la voglia di fare. E così ha ritrovato la gioia di essere vivo, oltre a capire la straordinaria opportunità che questo incidente - "una benedizione", come ama definirlo lui - gli ha dato: la possibilità di conoscersi meglio, di capire le sue potenzialità, di trovare un nuovo equilibrio interiore e persino di vincere l'argento per il lancio del disco alle Paralimpiadi del 2016. Perché, come dice Oney Tapia, "nella vita tutto è possibile e i limiti che incontriamo li mettiamo noi per primi". Una testimonianza per conoscere un uomo dalle mille risorse e profondamente legato alla sua terra d'origine, e per imparare a non arrendersi mai, perché ogni ostacolo è un'opportunità per scoprire chi siamo veramente.
