Includes numerous tables diagrams and statistical summaries. Original pictorial wrappers in black and beige with football vignette illustration on front cover; titled spine in black. Part of the long-running Spalding's Athletic Library series this volume Group II No. 2 is edited by Walter Camp-widely regarded as the "Father of American Football." This 1916 edition reflects the pivotal transformation of the sport in the post-Progressive Era emphasizing new safety rules collegiate athletic expansion and regional league development.

This edition provides exhaustive coverage of the 1915 football season and the updated rules adopted in 1916 by the Intercollegiate Football Rules Committee. Highlights include Camp's commentary on rule changes including refinements to the forward pass and field formation and detailed regional summaries such as "Foot Ball in the Middle West" "Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association" and "Foot Ball in Hawaii." The guide includes full-page statistical charts for team and individual performance historical retrospectives like "Famous Runs 1873 to 1915" and "The Field Goal Record" as well as collegiate and scholastic records with annotated lists of team captains coaches and league officials. Special attention is paid to "Foot Ball in the District of Columbia" and "Virginia Preparatory Schools" underscoring the sport's geographic reach. Of note is the inclusion of sections on Black players and schools in passing mention reflective of the period's broader racial exclusions and regional disparities in recordkeeping.

Spine chipped and partially split with wear to crown and foot; wrappers show edgewear and minor tears but remain intact and visually striking. Pages uniformly toned with age but internally complete and legible with solid binding. Overall good condition. A foundational football annual and an essential primary source on early 20th-century collegiate sports history notable both for Walter Camp's editorial influence and for its documentation of evolving gameplay and governance. unknown
