1979EPH25-05<p><em><strong>Color lithograph</strong></em> <em><strong>27 x 18 inches</strong></em><br /><em><strong>With affixed "ticket price" paper label.</strong></em></p><p>Vibrant and dynamic poster for the 1979 International Martial Arts Festival which was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.<br /><br />The event showcased a broad array of techniques and practices which fall under the broad umbrella term of "Martial Arts." It featured a number of luminaries including Dan Inosanto a legendary martial artist instructor and protege of Bruce Lee; Torio Kuramoto a master of Shorinji Kempo and founder of the Shorinji Kempo of Hollywood Dojo; Jun Chong South Korean martial artist and filmmaker; as well as Dan Lee; Fumio Demura; and many other luminaries. The festival also featured television and radio broadcaster Mario Machado the first American of Chinese heritage to be an on-air television news reporter.<br /><br />Martial Arts experienced a surge of popularity in the 1970s. This was due to a number of contributing factors including the popular films of Bruce Lee and countless others David Carradine's successful "Kung Fu" television show as well as a popular interest in alternative forms of fitness and recreation etc.</p>

Section two: The Aikido Way of Life, with chapters: Getting up, Sleep, The subconscious, The simple way, Eating, Our faces our eyes and the way we speak, The principle of non-disension, The unity of calm and action, Rules for beginners, Rules for instructors. With Conclusion and Appendix: Thirteen rules for aikido instructors. Signed and dated on half title page by author (Sept 14, 1974) with Japanese script above. On title page, in the phrase "10 th DAN" the number "10" has been changed to its current form with a pen and the phrase "The chief instructor at Aikido Headquarters" has been crossed out, as has been crossed out on the blurb "about the author" on the back inside fold of the cover, below the Mr. Tohei's portrait. A stamp has been inserted on the title page also, titled "KI NO KENKYUKAI H.Q." with the address and phone #. Nice document. Rare.
