Beginning in 1906 the Auto Club recorded the development of roadways and roadside services in Southern California in a series of strip maps and road maps that remained indispensable to motorists well into the digital age. This mid-century piece opens to a map of Tulare County which is accompanied by a lengthy index. Published on the eve of World War II this map precedes the establishment of Rankin Field near Tulare where more than 10000 pilots received training including twelve future Aces and two Medal of Honor Recipients. The Saratoga Series C55 featured the Prestomatic Fluid Drive transmission as standard equipment and the Town & Country wagon was still part of the series with the FirePower V-8 Hemi engine. First edition of this scarce promotional dealer’s brochure/poster for the Durant Motors Star Four automobiles which was founded in 1921 by William Durant after he lost control of General Motors. During the 1920s Durant Motors built cars assembled from parts manufactured by other suppliers and the intent was to build a company that rivaled GM and Chevrolet. This catalogue describes and illustrates the Durant Four-Cylinder Touring Four-cylinder Roadster Sedan and Coupe intended to compete with Ford’s Model T.
