Jarvis has dug into the historical record, and gone to the original sources... and discovered that things were not as we had been told. 56 pages including footnotes and advertisements. Includes several pertinent cartoons from Vancouver newspapers of the early 1900s. "In the course of preliminary research (of the Komagata Maru incident in 1914) I discovered a true Canadian hero, William Hopkinson, an immigration inspector in Vancouver, who conducted undercover operations among Indian immigrants. It was his intelligence briefings and advice that helped stiffen the backbone of the government in dealing with the shipload of illegals. In preparation for C-FAR's rally in Vancouver to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Hopkinson's assassination by a Sikh extremist, I asked Robert Jarvis to research the Vancouver archives on Hopkinson and the events surrounding the Komagata Maru. His investigations let to this booklet. He quickly found that the strong opposition - by politicians and labour - to the Komagata Maru could be traced back to the activitiess of the Asiatic Exclusion Leage, formed some eight years before. What Mr. Jarvis has found is a long ignored and misreported chapter in Canadian history." - Paul Fromm, from Introduction. Unmarked. Light wear. Nice copy. Book
