Impegnata con una propria squadra ufficiale, supportata dall'Abarth, ha fatto correre modelli leggendari come le 124 e le 131 con al volante piloti di indiscusso carisma come, per citarne solo alcuni, Ceccato, Trombotto, Paganelli, Pinto, Bacchelli, Cambiaghi, Verini, Waldegard, Röhrl e Alen. Questa affascinante storia rivive in un volume ricco di immagini e aneddoti, a firma di Emanuele Sanfront, per anni giornalista e navigatore di rally.
ill., ril. La presenza della Fiat nei rally risale agli inizi del secolo scorso, all'epoca delle prime gare di regolarità in Italia e all'estero: raduni turistici più che veri e propri rally. La Casa di Torino prese parte anche alle prime gare a carattere agonistico degli anni Trenta e Quaranta, così come alle prove di regolarità pura, disputate nei decenni successivi con le varie "Topolino", 1100/103, 600 e 500. L'epoca d'oro della Fiat nei rally, iniziata a metà degli anni Sessanta con le 124 Berlina, Sport Spider e le 125, si consolidò nei primi anni Settanta, che segnarono il passaggio da un impegno semiufficiale (con le 124 Sport Spider 1600, 125 Special e 128 Sport Coupé) a un diretto coinvolgimento della Fiat nei vari campionati con le Fiat 124 Abarth Rally, 124 ST e X1/9 Abarth), che portò il marchio torinese al titolo mondiale nel 1980 con la 131 Abarth Rally. È questa la materia trattata dal volume, per la prima volta in modo organico, che documenta la partecipazione della Fiat ai rally, attraverso centinaia di immagini sino a oggi inedite, a supporto di un testo rigoroso nella ricostruzione storica dei fatti. Il volume affronta anche la partecipazione della Fiat ai trofei monomodello degli ultimi trent'anni (con le Uno, Uno Turbo, Cinquecento, Seicento, Stilo, Punto e Panda), e non tralascia il recente ritorno ufficiale della Fiat nei rally con la grande Punto S2000.
