Arthur Shrewsbury 11 April 1856 19 May 1903 was an English cricketer and rugby football administrator. He was widely rated as competing with W. G. Grace for the accolade of best batsman of the 1880s; Grace himself when asked whom he would most like in his side replied simply "Give me Arthur". An opening batsman Shrewsbury played his cricket for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and played 23 Test matches for England captaining them in 7 games with a record of won 5 lost 2. He was the last professional to be England captain until Len Hutton was chosen in 1952. He was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1890. 2218537Near Fine. Hi I am selling some of my non Wisdens Here we have : Imperial Cricket by P.F.Warner. 1912. What an enormous book I have never seen anything like it. There is no jacket but not sure one was ever on it by researching it. It is Number BLANK of the 900 subscribers edition not sure why blank I am not an expert on this book perhaps it makes it worthless. Online they retail at 250-500 so ill stick with the lower amount if I am wildly off please say. Lovely picture and ripped tissue paper of His Majesty King George V. The Abe book people say it is : Portrait and numerous plates 3 coloured. Large 4to 12 1/4 x 10 inches pages: xxi:503. It is so huge it has been used to press flowers flowers included unless you want me to bin then they could be 100 years old no damage to the book. Ill post for free as could be a lot. UK only for . With a frontispiece various photographs and reproductions and an appendix of Hampshire records 1895-1956. A little discolouration to the backstrip ends and some light top- and fore edge spotting. A very good copy in sometime supplied non-price-clipped dust wrapper lightly dust soiled in places and with just a little edgewear and one short closed tear. This copy has been signed on the front free endpaper by fifteen members of the 1961 Australian touring team including Richie Benaud Neil Harvey Bill Lawry and Ian Quick; and signed on the half-title by twelve members of the 1961 Championship winning Hampshire side their first ever title.
