Unusual broadside souvenir printed by a Guatemalan hospital thanking three bullfighters for fundraising efforts on their behalf. The Hospital General San Juan de Dios de Guatemala was founded in 1667. In the 1880s it undertook to restore and maintain the colonial-era Plaza de Toros the local bullfighting ring which was a popular spot for the local corridas and other forms of entertainment. The hospital would then receive the income from the bullfights and other festivities. Herein three picadores are individually thanked for participation in what we suspect was a Corrida de Beneficencia in early 1888. This handsome piece utilizes numerous typefaces and is printed in gold. unknown
194001115San Jose 1940. Silver gelatin photographs 8 x 10 inches. Some with inscriptions to the photographer Jose Valverde by the various bullfighers. Near fine with minimal wear. A scarce suite of photographs showing the world of Costa Rican bullfighting in the mid-20th century all taken by the photographer Jose Valverde. Though Costa Rican bullfighting currently differs from the Spanish variety in that the aim is to only dodge the bulls and not to kill them the form practiced here appears to be more in line with the Spanish version with many of the bulls shown with spears protruding from them as they charge the bullfighters. Notably four photographs show women bullfighters notable as this was the period when women first worked as bullfighters. Overall an uncommon survival. unknown

Curiously it announces this as a farewell fight but names two teens: Manolito and Joselito 13 and 15 respectively. Also noting that no horses will be used. An interesting artifact that is clearly aimed at both Ciudad Juarez and El Paso across the river. unknown
