Moore climbed with Whymper and Horace Walker, and was a member of the party which made the first ascent of Mont Blanc via the Brenva ice-ridge. Originally published privately in 1867 in an edition of 100 copies. The plates are remarkable for their extensive and detailed captions. He was instrumental in founding the Association of British Members of the Swiss Alpine Club and became its first President in 1879; an obituary and memoir was published when the Association opened the first British hut on the Allalinhorn in 1912.
