In 1955 Ernie and Rhoda Blake founded Taos Ski Valley as a ski mountain. The Blakes were German and Swiss ski enthusiasts who moved to New Mexico in 1941. Ernie had previously managed the Santa Fe Ski Basin and Glenwood Springs. He discovered the area while flying his Cessna 170 between the two ski areas. Looart Press, Inc unknown
