One of the leaders of the revival of wood-engraving in the 1920s Irish artist and author Robert Gibbings was director of the Golden Cockerel Press for nine years. The first part of the volume is a descriptive bibliography of the sixty-seven books illustrated by Gibbings; and the second lists his work as artist writer printer and publisher in chronological order and also records some publications containing references to his work. There is a note on the printing methods of the Golden Cockerel Press contributed by A. C. Cooper who was pressman throughout the period of Gibbings' direction. Written by A. Mary Kirkus edited by Gibbings's partner Patience Empson and John Harris. In the original quarter cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor wear to the extremities. A charming highly detailed and finished pencil drawing signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner. The drawing depicts a beautiful young woman with a large hat seated among baskets and at a table filled with fruits and flowers against a background of a busy medieval marketplace with buildings and turrets in the far background. Arnold was a skilled artist and illustrator who exhibited at the Royal College of Art and the Royal Society of Artists in the '20s and '30s.
