Generally very good or better with minor corner and edge wear. <br /> <br /> Three separate views of the historic collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge on November 7 1940. One view is from the east pier during the corkscrewing at 10:45am and another from a similar time viewed from below. The third shows the collapse into the Sound at 11:08am. Various factors including lack of torsional resistance flexibility of the structure "vortex shedding" and high winds contributed to the collapse; "Galloping Gertie" becoming an all-time lesson in physics and bridge construction. unknown

185023992New York 1850. Very good overall. An interesting letter detailing the negotiation over wooden vs. iron railroad bridges. In this letter addressed to Strong M. M. White agent of the New York Iron Bridge Co. seeking to persuade the Vermont railroad to eschew a wooden bridge and setting out advantageous terms for purchasing an iron bridge.<br /> <br /> Strong was "liable as endorser on paper for the Rutland and Washington Railroad Company which subsequently failed to an amount considerable exceeding all his property." He was sued in the Supreme Court of Vermont lter in the 1850s and looks to have been bankrupted losing his real estate marble quarry share etc. See "Reports of Cases Argued and Determined in the Supreme Court of Vermont vol. 42 Montpelier Vt 1870 by Wheelock Veazey a Vermont Civil War hero.<br /> <br /> Letter written on blue laid paper 4pp 8 x 10 1/4"written on 1pp docketed on the verso with period folds. A small raised oval in the top left corner unreadable by this cataloguer. Verso a little marked a little creased. unknown

R. P. i.e. acreage'; 'Value. £ s. d.'; 'REMARKS.' The first entry 'House Outbuildings Garden &c' has the following under 'REMARKS': 'The House is old and does not meet modern requirements but is in nice tenantable order'. Another entry 'Dan Briggs' carries the comment 'Field on Grindle low side of Ribble part of North E. Side of fence quite down part of this is very liable to flood. Very badly washed by River & wants weiring full length of River side'. The value is carried forward and the account ends 'I have very carefully gone over this Farm and I estimate the top Market Value at £6335. signed William S.
