19702988
New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company 1970. Cloth. Very Good. FIRST US EDITION WITH INSCRIBED NOTE & TLS FROM AUTHOR. 8vo. Original blue patterned boards black-stamped spine title panel lettered in gilt gilt-stamped facsimile signature to upper board. Extremities bruised. Inscribed in blue biro to white note paper pasted to ffep: "Teresa Fitzpatrick With all good wishes from Ann Bridge" brief one-page typed letter on blue airmail paper 08.05.19710 addressed to Teresa and signed "& in haste Mary O'Malley" stapled to verso of ffep. Thumbed else clean. In the original dust jacket: some creasing edgewear and nicking. Very good/ very good A pleasing association copy of Bridge's account of the numerous moments of "inexplicable 'knowings'" featuring a TLS to her "dear friend" the Atlantic Monthly's circulating manager Teresa Fitzpatrick expressing sympathy for her "nervous prostration" possibly from Dexamyl. It seems likely that the Anglo-American novelist Ann Bridge pseud. of Lady Mary O'Malley 1889-1974 met Teresa Fitzgerald "the short energetic woman who presided over the Atlantic's circulation department" when Bridge's first novel Peking Picnic 1932 won the magazine's $10 000 prize. Fitzgerald is perhaps best remembered for her role in investigating and helping resolve the 1928 Lincoln love letters scam in which the Atlantic Monthly and Ellery Sedgwick were embroiled.
McGraw-Hill Book Company hardcover

192866169London: Arrosmith 1928. First edition. PResumed first printing. Hardcover. Good. No dust jacket. Cover has some wear and soiling. Ink note on half-title. Pencil erasure inside rear board. Includes: illustrations index. Endpaper maps; Midway between Greece and Egypt on the direct sea route from Athens to Alexandris lie the twelve islands called the Dodecanese. Their Greek populationa and Italian political status bind them to continental Europe rather than to Asia Minor. Perhaps the most famous of these islands is Rhodes. This work addresses concerns that the status of these islands should be resolved and makes a case for transferance from Italian political control to that of Greece since the majority of the population was of Greek origin and appeared to desire this political affiliation.
