Although Strauss and his original team incorporated Ellis d. 1949 Strauss managed to shunt Ellis aside in November 1931 after several delays and forced him into retirement and long stretches of unemployment even though he continued work unpaid on the calculations and structure of the Golden Gate Bridge.
