Slight fading and nibbling at corners of front cover. Good~~The Croquet Association was founded in 1896 by Walter H. Peel a lifelong player who lent his name to both tournaments and terms of the sport. Croquet enjoyed a resurgence in the Edwardian era during which this book was printed and the Croquet Association continues as the official governing body of English croquet. Slazenger’s manufactured and sold sporting equipment particularly for tennis and croquet. The book contains ads before and after the regulations and diagrams explaining the game. ~~A scarce copy with only one in OCLC as of 5/23/2025~~. Slazenger & Sons unknown

Sellotape used to keep covers together which has become detached. The rest of the pamphlet is intact however although staples are rusted. This is a lovely and well kept piece of memorabilia of a bygone England of cucumber sandwiches and bowling greens complete with detailed rules regulations and etiquette. unknown

New York: 1882. <br /></p><p>Fine copy of the First Edition of the first standard American rules of the game; one of two variants priority unknown. With a page-and-a-half description of the game followed by 53 rules. The National Croquet Association was founded in 1879 but it wasn't until October 4 1882 that representatives of twenty-five American croquet clubs met on the grounds of the New York Croquet Club and adopted a standard set of rules for the popular nine-wicket game. The association was active until the 1890s when the popularity of lawn tennis surged and interest in croquet viewed as a gambling game diminished. "The necessity for a uniform Code of Rules governing Croquet Players throughout the country has for a long time been apparent.
