With a coloured frontispiece a coloured map and 147 photographic illustrations of among others documents art and views some folding. xxiv 342 2 pp. First edition of the account of the three very important explorations by the Hungarian-born archaeologist Marc Aurel Steins 1862-1943 and of his researches carried out in Chinese Turkistan and adjacent parts of innermost Asia in 1900-1901 1906-1908 and 1913-1914. Stein travelled through Pamirs Khotan and Niya to Dunhuang Suchou Turfan and Kashgar to Samaskand and the northern and southern silk roads. In the present work he describes his archeological and topographical discoveries by showing artefacts like documents art objects and describing buildings and landscapes all illustrated with the photographic illustrations showing the eastern and western influences. Highly interesting summary of this important archeological expedition to Chinese Turkistan and its adjacent areas.With the bookplate of Louise Maxwell Scott on the front paste-down and another owner's inscription dated March 1991 and the bookplate of A. Based on lectures given at the Lowell Institute this book reflects on the explorations made by Marc Aurel Stein in four expeditions to Central Asia that took him into Eastern Turkestan westernmost China and across the Hindu Kush and the Pamirs. His greatest triumph involved => discovery of the world's oldest printed text Diamond Sutra dating to A.D. 868 plus 40000 other scrolls. He received a knighthood for his efforts which extended over 30 years.<br>Â Â Â Â Stein's account is accompanied by many illustrations in both black and white and color. These include a color frontispiece several fold-out panoramas and a folding color map at rear with all color illustrations having intact tissue guards.<br>Â Â Â Â Provenance: From the library of American collector Albert A. "Order and Convexity in Potential Theory: H-Cones"" by Nicu Boboc Gheorghe Bucur and Aurel Cornea is a rare hardcover book published in 1981 as part of the series Lecture Notes in Mathematics volume 853. This copy is a former university library book which seems to have been rebound in hardcovers with the original front cover affixed to the front board. Despite its former library status it is a First Edition in Very Good- condition. The covers are in great shape displaying sharp corners though the spine ends are very lightly indented. The binding remains square and tight. There are very few signs of its previous library status with only stamps present on the top and bottom edges of the text block; there are no cardholder or other library stamps. Internally the interior pages are clean and unmarked. The book measures 9.5 x 6.4 x 0.9 inches.
