In the original colour illustrated dustwrapper which has been price clipped to the front inner flap. Repair to the reverse of the wrapper covering some loss to the bottom of the wrapper spine affecting the lettering of the word and in the publishers name and tape used to strengthen the corners. FIRST EDITION OF EVELYN WAUGH'S THIRD NOVEL. This satiric novel by Waugh published in 1932 skewers attempts to impose European customs and beliefs upon so-called primitive peoples.<br> The story is set in the fictional empire of Azania an island off the coast of Africa. Upon the death of the emperor of Azania rule is assumed by his grandson Seth a recent graduate of Oxford who is eager to modernize his country. Seth’s ideas are a muddle of fashionable notions and philosophies and each of his new programs fails. Ultimately the country relapses into barbarism and cannibalism. Chapman and Hall hardcover

Men at Arms is a near fine or better copy in a VG un-faded D/W with no fading to the spine; it has a short closed tear to the bottom edge of the front panel and a couple of small shallow chips at the base of the spine not affecting any lettering and a small shallow chip to the bottom edge of the really clean back panel. Officers and Gentlemen is a near fine bright and clean copy with offsetting to both sets of end-papers and a few foxing spots to the fore-edge. The price-clipped D/W is in very nearly fine condition with minor foxing in places to the back panel. Unconditional Surrender is a very fine copy in a very nearly fine D/W minusculy frayed at the head of the spine which is totally un-faded. To find all 3 books entirely un-faded is a rare find indeed. In the very rare brown fragile D/W which has a large chip removing the top 5.3 cm of the spine. The D/W is one of the thin dull grey paper wrappers meant to be removed. It is often missing.
