The leaf portrays the angel Gabriel comforting Daniel - Daniel VIII:17. with text lines beneath. Excellent woodblock and leaf in excellent condition. Top corners with a little bit of bleed from previous adhesive on verso overall excellent and suitable for framing. 7.5 x 4.75 inches. The reproduction fomr the Douce & Dibdin were cut from wood by Messrs. Bonner and Byfield. The authors aimed to provide extremely accurate woodcut representations of the original Holbein designs to readers. Hinge cracks to both covers- a bit fragile but they are still pretty well attached. Ancient ink signature inside front cover & at top margin of title page. Foxing to endpapers frontis title page- actual text is relatively bright & free of discolor- maybe minor spotting in some margins.
