The Binding An exceptional and striking mid-19th-century nautical binding stamped "Kelliegram Binding" to the rear. Bound in full navy crushed morocco. The upper board features a magnificent large gilt-tooled vignette of a fully rigged galleon in full sail cresting stylized turbulent waves. The lower board is centered with a brilliant gilt trident. The spine is divided into six compartments by five raised bands lettered in gilt in the second compartment with the remaining compartments featuring distinct gilt nautical motifs: a pennant a camp tent a ship an anchor and a leaping dolphin. Finished with gilt-ruled edges intricate gilt inner dentelles solid endpapers and a gilt top edge. The absolute precision lavish tooling and premium materials are characteristic of the famed Kelliegram style produced by Kelly & Sons placing this remarkable piece firmly alongside the finest work of Golden Age peers like Riviere Zaehnsdorf and Bayntun.
