Resident in Shanghai from 1904 to 1949 the author 1894-1961 was proficient in several Chinese instruments and toured the US in the 1930s giving lectures on Chinese music and performing his own compositions. This study was much admired by the cultural critic Lin Yutang and the famous opera performer Mei Lanfang. Octavo.
