Hardcover quarter-leather binding black leather spine and corners marbled boards nicely-preserved copy of this original pre-Civil War publication binding is tight and square and the contents are clean and free of foxing there are two gentle vertical creases on most of the pages but they have done no damage this is a minor flaw the leather is worn at the corner-tips and there are some small worn areas on the spine 590 pages many topics some illustrations also . The work marks the first use of the narrative device of a pull-out newspaper from the future - in this case the Journal du Déjeneur recounting world events on 15 September 1910. Les Voyages de Kang-Hi is intended "partly to describe present French manners from a distancing perspective. and partly to show plausible developments in technology" Alkon pp. 198-9 and it emulates the form of Montesquieu's Persian Letters. The author 1764-1830 was the son of Marshal Francis de Gaston and a politician and intellectual. During the French Revolution following the dissolution of the National Constituent Assembly of which he was a member he fled to England. 2 vols duodecimo 168 x 97 mm. With 3 folding plates. Near-contemporary quarter sheep smooth spine divided by gilt scrolling rolls compartments tooled with gilt five-pointed stars red and green labels red sides pale blue endpapers edges yellow and speckled blue. Near-contemporary ownership label of one L. Perrin fils on front pastedowns. Losses to spines worming to two boards and final 30 leaves of vol. II slightly affecting text first plates in vol. The proposed railway from Levis Quebec to Kennebec Maine was to connect with a railway under construction from Lexington Maine to Kennebec. The president of the company was the Hon. J. G. The circular was advertising a set of 21 pieces for $15 and features splints to be used for various finger arm or leg injurious. The splints in the set came in both child and adult sized. There are seven illustrated examples of the splints in use. The creator of this splints was Richard J. Levis a Civil War doctor who was a surgeon at the Pennsylvania Hospital. While the there is no date on the circular Leach & Greene appear to have been in business at the Tremont Street location in the late 1880 to the early 1890s. Some of the same illustrations found on the circular were also used in a variety of medical supply catalogues around the same time. Single sheet double-sided green paper. Measures 9 3/4" x 5 3/4" <br/><br/> unknown books
