FIRST EDITION 1807 French text 24 plates of FRUITS printed in colours and finished by hand after the Pretres pages: viii 1- 384. Bound in full contemporary mottled sheep narrow gilt floral border to covers gilt decoration to spine 2 gilt lettered red morocco labels edges and endpapers marbled. A few hair-line surface cracks to spine small bump to upper corner of lower cover small oval ink stamp removed from blank area of first title page now neatly patched a total of 8 further ink stamps of E. Tessier 1 to blank veso of 1 plate and the rest to lower margins of text throughout the 2 works not affecting text or images blank piece torn off lower corner of page 77/78 first work now neatly repaired no loss to text pale brown stain to lower margin of pages 267-270 first work lower blank margin torn off final page of second work now neatly repaired with loss of the word finis very good copies. This is the Plesch copy with the gilt red leather bookplate of the collection of Arpad Plesch on the front pastedown. In 1975 Prof. Rex was offered for the first time together with Professor Daniel Heartz of the Music Department an interdisciplinary course on music and literature in the French 18th century especially concerned with Rousseau and Diderot. A brilliant cellist Rex was known on occasion to play musical examples for the students in the class on his cello.
