All of which are hand-coloured. Collated complete. Set in 1799 this novella tells the fictional account of the revolt on a Spanish slave ship captained by Don Benito Cereno. Written by Herman Melville an American novelist short story writer and poet of the American Renaissance period. Illustrated by Edward McKnight Kauffer an American artist and graphic designer. In the original cloth lacking the original dust wrapper. Externally excellent with fading to the spine and to the head of the boards. Bookplate of A.
